III Latin American Conference on Chemical Accidents
November 3-5, 2008
Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA
Site: Asociación Médica Argentina

Since 1991, the Chemical Information Center for Emergencies (CIQUIME) has developed numerous activities to promote safety in the transport, handling and storage of hazardous materials, and improving the responsiveness of emergency services.

Today our efforts are devoted to the holding of the Third Latin American Conference on Chemical Accidents. In 1995 and 1997 were honored to receive numerous professionals and technicians in the region in early editions of the Conference.

From these were developed a number of recommendations for improving the responsiveness of the various emergency services.

Recommendations

  • Increase the sharing of the activities of international organizations as the International Program on Chemical Safety (IPCS / WHO), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), U.S. Office for Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID / OFDA), APELL Program (UN, etc.).
  • Provide updated information for emergency services regularly. This information should not be distributed indiscriminately, but that would have previously trained on using it to obtain better results.
  • Encourage the creation of a chemical emergency in those countries that do not have it.
  • Encourage the exchange of information between companies producing chemicals for emergency services and the community.
  • Promote the realization of events (seminars, conferences, etc..) In the region to enable the exchange of experiences with professionals from other parts of the world.

EI Conference Organizing Committee is grateful to have participated in the III Latin American Conference on Chemical Accidents, along with leading practitioners in our country and abroad to exchange experiences in:

  • Preparing response services to hazardous materials incidents.
  • Incidents involving Weapons of Mass Destruction (Chemical Weapons).
  • Implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).
  • Transport of Dangerous Goods
